Examples of our work: sustainable development in companies
Design of cleaner production and environmentally sustainable technology projects
Preparation of new technical assistance programs focusing on Cleaner Production (CP), Environmentally Sustainable Technologies (EST) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in several countries. Two examples from Romania include:
For Seco, developed a new five year CP/EST/CSR program. ÆC reviewed past and current CP activities in Romania and discussed various project designs with key Romanian and international stakeholders. Elaborated the Project Document, including the program's implementation plan, institutional framework and budget. In a follow up contract tender documents for the new program were prepared. (2003-05)
For ADA, designed a new CP program for the city of Timisoara. Reviewed past and current CP activities in the area and discussed potential project designs with key Romanian and international stakeholders. The work resulted in the design of the operational framework and implementation strategy of the project, including services to be offered under the project and preparation of the project budget. (2004-05)
Design of new financing mechanisms to support CP and EST investments
Assessed the feasibility of a new "Green Credit Line and Trust Fund" in Vietnam. The scheme recommended by ÆC was to provide a credit line of about 15 million USD (offered and capitalized by up to 6 Vietnamese commercial banks), as well as a trust fund of about 5 million USD (capitalized from international and Vietnamese sources). The scheme was to finance environmentally sustainable technology investments in companies, with combined credits from the banks and investment grants from the Fund. (2005-06)
Strategies guiding environmental investments in enterprises
Reviewed, edited and commented on draft World Bank guidelines for its involvement in financing industrial pollution abatement and control investments. Critiqued the draft guidelines in light of OECD and EU experience and rules governing public funding for environmental investments in industry. (2005)
Prepared a strategic paper for Seco-supported CP Centers (about one dozen of such centers worldwide) on financing CP and EST investments. By implementing this strategy, CP Centers were expected to develop new financing services for industrial companies, facilitating increased investments in CP and EST. (2004-05)
Analytical and comparative studies
Elaboration of a report on experience with Sustainable Industrial Production (SIP) in EECCA and SEE. The report was published as part of a larger EEA/UNEP report on Sustainable Consumption and Production in EECCA and SEE and presented at the Environment for Europe Ministerial Conference in Belgrade, October 2007. Case studies were carried out examining CP, EST practices and related financing, industrial energy efficiency improvement and Environmental Management Systems (EMS). Barriers were identified and recommendations made (2006-07). View report (8.8 MB).
